WHAT TO EXPECT...

Once you have had your braces carefully placed by Dr. Metelka you will notice some changes. You will notice your lip getting caught on your braces, this is perfectly normal. Your lip will gradually retrain itself. If you notice one or two brackets rubbing against your lip, you may use your wax. Wax can be placed around any bracket that is irritating your lips. Additionally, you may notice a cold sore develop in that area. Use the medication provided or any over the counter ointment for oral sores. You may also notice your teeth losening. This also is completely normal and should be expected. It usually takes about 2 weeks until you and your mouth are completely used to your new braces. By your 2nd visit you will be so used to your new braces you won't even notice they are there!

Mild discomfort should be expected. The most discomfort will be felt approximately 12-24hrs after the braces are placed. This is your body recognizing the pressure we are putting on your teeth to move. Any over the counter pain reliever can be used.

The colored "ties" are fitted around each bracket to hold the wire in place. If you lose one or two of these "ties" it is not necessary to make a special appointment. As long as the remaining ties are present, they will hold the wire in place until your next appointment. The ties and wires are changed at each appointment.
