FAMILY DENTISTRY

Family dentists who perform cosmetic procedures normally refer to themselves as family and cosmetic dentists. Family and cosmetic dentists have more training than typical family dentists, though they occasionally refer some people to other dentists if specialized treatments are required. Specialists may include orthodontists (for teeth straightening), endodontists (for more complex root canal treatments), and maxillofacial surgeons (for oral surgery).

Our goal is prevention orientated. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that you visit your family dentist for a checkup a minimum of two times each year. These visits provide routine or deep cleanings to eliminate plaque buildup above and below the gumline and prevent periodontal disease. We also provide fluoride treatments to help seal the teeth, a procedure also important in the prevention of tooth decay. Preventative dental checkups can help with the detection of oral health problems long before the onset of symptoms. Radiographs are an invaluable tool. They allow us to see below the gumline and also can show decay that is not obvious to the naked eye, such as between your teeth. They also can detect cysts, abcesses and any other abnormality. The cost of 1 six month checkup easily pays for itself when we find a small cavity that left unchecked can lead to much costlier and involved procedures. The old adage of "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is so very true.

CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY

We love children and children love us! We recommend that a child begin dentist visits at three years of age. We find that many of our youngest patients actually enjoy coming for dental appointments more than many adults! We know that the foundations for a lifetime of good dental health is instilled in the earliest years. We strive to form a long lasting relationship with your children and promise we will make their checkup fun. We encourage our patients to bring their small tot's with them so their children get used to the experience of visiting the dentist. Seeing Mom or Dad getting their teeth cleaned takes some of the "scariness" out of the dreaded "dentist appointment". Seeing Mom or Dad actually having fun and laughing while they are getting their teeth cleaned is always a great motivator. The kids can't wait for their visit!

Kids Waiting Room As a parent, your main responsibility is to instill good dental hygiene habits in your children and maintain a regular schedule of dental visits as they grow up. The facts show that children who learn to take care of their teeth at a young age are more likely to have good dental habits as grown-ups.
